PIANO ACCOMPANIST
Daniel (Danny) Gerrard BA (Hons), ALCM, LMusLCM, PGCE
Danny joined us as Accompanist early in 2022 after our MD had spotted him accompanying
Liverpool Male Voice Choir at a concert nearby. As is her custom Anne went up to
him and simply asked if he’d fancy joining Pilkington Choir, as our previous accompanist
had been forced to leave through ill health.. After coming along to our next rehearsal,
he said he very much liked our repertoire and had been made to feel welcome by members
so he’d be happy to join.
Danny is a St Helens man, educated in local schools before continuing with A Level
Studies at Carmel College at the same time as studying piano and composition,at the
Junior Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. Amongst his special interests
were “Singing Accompaniment”; “Piano Duets” and “Music Theory”. He really must have
been considered outstanding to have been invited to study at Junior RNCM. Rather
surprisingly, he had not started to play piano until he was 13 years of age but found
he had a natural affinity and decided to pursue music as his academic career.
Following A Levels, he studied music at Liverpool University to gain his Honours
Degree, staying on for another 2 years to complete his Masters in Music. Thereafter,
he added to his earlier accomplishments with a Diploma in Composition (ALCM) and
a Diploma in Music Theory (LMusLCM). To complete his academic career, he achieved
his Teaching Certificate (PGCE).
Some 13 years ago Danny took up a position as Accompanist to the Liverpool Male Voice
Choir a role which continues to this day. Since joining Pilkington Choir he has shown
what an incredible asset he is to our Choir bringing tremendous confidence to us
all as singers with his strong and accurate accompaniment lines. We are so delighted
he has chosen to join us.
